Keep your vehicle in top form with basic household cleaners
Clean your vehicle after every run to keep it in peak condition. No special items are required other than the basic tools in your kit and some common cleaning products.
Clean the vehicle with an air compressor and brush
Remove any batteries from the vehicle and then blow off loose dirt or debris with compressed air and a brush (always use eye protection when using compressed air). Small rocks can get caught between gears and debris can reduce the cooling effect of motor and ESC heatsinks. For ordinary runs on grass, dirt, or pavement, no further cleaning may be required.
Spray the vehicle with a general all-purpose cleaner
After running in harsh conditions like mud, snow, or water, extra cleaning is required to maintain your vehicle’s performance and prevent rust. If your vehicle is waterproof, spray it with a general all-purpose cleaner after removing the loose debris.
Scrub the chassis
Use a brush to scrub away caked on mud and grass. You may need to spray on more cleaner and let it soak for stubborn debris.
Remove and clean the wheels
Excess mud on the wheels and tires can unbalance them and cause vibrations. Remove all four wheels and clean them thoroughly. Once the wheels are off, clean off the steering and suspension.
Hose off the vehicle
After thoroughly washing the vehicle with all-purpose cleaner, hose it off with water. Use a low-pressure hose to wash off the chassis and wheels. Be sure to cover the breather hole in the wheels when you clean them to avoid taking on water.
Use the air compressor to blow dry the vehicle
After rinsing the vehicle, use compressed air to blow off the water.
Clean up any leftover moisture with a rag
Clean up any leftover water with a rag. Be sure to dry the vehicle as much as possible.
Spray a rust inhibitor on bearings and other metal parts
After drying the vehicle, spray a rust inhibitor like WD-40 on all exposed bearings and metal parts like drive cups. Leave the vehicle in a warm location to finish drying before reassembling it and putting it away.
Clean the body with a brush
To clean the body, spray it with an all purpose cleaner and gently scrub away any mud and debris. Use a soft brush to avoid scratching the surface. Rinse the body with water and then let it dry.
Use glass cleaner to restore the shine
Once the body is dry, spray it with glass cleaner and then wipe it off to restore the shine. Reinstall the wheels and mount the body back on the the chassis. Your Traxxas vehicle is now ready for its next adventure.
